چکیده

− The currently established documentary standards [1, 2] for primary accelerometer calibration pro vide a characterisation of the device under test which is not well suited for the application to transient excitations. The model based parameter identification (MBPI) introduced over the last years [3, 4] may provide better means of char acterisation for such types of applications. The method was recently validated with extensive measurement series in a joint research project between PTB and the company “SPEKTRA Schwingungstechnik und Akustik GmbH Dresden” and is now considered by the authors to be ready for practical use and worthwhile to be standardized on an ISO level. This contribution will shortly re-visit the methodology of MBPI, report on the validation process and finally describe the current effort to implement a new ISO documentary standard on the topic.

Review and Comparison of In-field Calibration Methods of Accelerometer Based on Gravity Vector

Considering the wide applications of accelerometers to determine position and attitude and due to reducing of accuracy of this sensors because of some errors, this paper discusses the calibration of accelerometers. Also because the traditional calibration methods are very time consuming, costly and need precision laboratory equipment, in-field calibration methods are recommended which are simpl...

Single station estimation of earthquake early warning parameters by using amplitude envelope curve

In this study, new empirical relationships to estimate key parameters in Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) system including magnitude, epicentral distance and Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA) are introduced based on features of the initial portion of P-wave’s amplitude envelope curve. For this purpose, 226 time series recorded by bore-hole accelerometers of Japanese KiK-net are processed for earthq...

A Novel System-Level Calibration Method for Gimballed Platform IMU Using Optimal Estimation

An accurate calibration of inertial measurement unit errors is increasingly important as the inertial navigation system requirements become more stringent. Developing calibration methods that use as less as possible of IMU signals has 6-DOF gimballed IMU in space-stabilized mode is presented. It is considered as held stationary in the test location incorporating 15 di...

Maximum likelihood calibration of a magnetometer using inertial sensors

Magnetometers and inertial sensors (accelerometers and gyroscopes) are widely used to estimate 3D orientation. For the orientation estimates to be accurate, the sensor axes need to be aligned and the magnetometer needs to be calibrated for sensor errors and for the presence of magnetic disturbances. In this work we use a grey-box system identification approach to compute maximum likelihood esti...

Aligning the Forces - Eliminating the Misalignments in IMU Arrays

Ultra-low-cost single-chip inertial measurement units (IMUs) combined into IMU arrays are opening up new possibilities for inertial sensing. However, to make these systems practical for researchers, a simple calibration procedure that aligns the sensitivity axes of the sensors in the array is needed. In this letter, we suggest a novel mechanical-rotation-rig-free calibration procedure based on ...
